CRICOS Course Codes:

  • 0100203 (International First Year Diploma – Business)
  • 0100205 (International First Year Diploma – Science)
  • 0100206 (International First Year Diploma – Engineering)

International First Year Diplomas are two-semester programs that function as an alternative first year of an undergraduate degree for students who need additional academic and English support in their first year of undergraduate study. Successful completion of the course allows for direct entry into the second year of an undergraduate degree in the program discipline. The overall time taken to complete the degree will be the same as if the student was able to enter the first year of their chosen undergraduate degree directly.

Programs are available in:

  • Science
  • Engineering
  • Business

Course structure

  • All programs are two semesters long
  • Start in Semester One (February), Semester Two (July) or Spring Semester (late October)
  • 1 unit of English for Academic Purposes + 7 discipline-specific units
  • Academic level equivalent to first-year undergraduate level
  • Most of the course delivered face to face in lecture theatres and tutorial classrooms
  • Some material delivered in blended mode where certain modules are done online
  • One-week exam period at end of each semester
  • Assessment mirrors that of University of Tasmania undergraduate first-year papers
  • An overall pass (50% or greater) is required in every unit to successfully complete the course
