Living with a real family in homestay accommodation gives students the chance to experience what life in New Zealand is all about.
Homestays are the best way for students to experience life in New Zealand, get to know local people and places, and practise speaking English.
Up Education recommends homestay accommodation for all our international students – and it’s required for students under the age of 18, unless they’re living in approved accommodation or with a caregiver.
Homestay students will live in a home with a local family and up to two other international students. They’ll have a bedroom with a study desk, and access to TV, Wi-Fi, meals and laundry. The host family will make sure students know how to get public transport to and from college before their first day with UP Education.
We want our students to be safe, supported, and have a great homestay experience in New Zealand. To make sure this happens, we thoroughly vet all our homestay homes and families before students are placed with them, and we visit students under the age of 18 at least three times a year to make sure things are going well.
Homestay families must sign a contract specifying rules and standards, and undergo vetting by the New Zealand Police. We also provide them with ongoing training and support, to ensure they keep meeting our students’ needs.
